Øyvind Mæland, compositeur – composer

Né en 1985, le compositeur norvégien Øyvind Mæland étudie le piano au Barratt Due Musikkinstitutt avec Jiri Hlinka, avant dʼétudier la composition à la Norwegian Academy of Music avec Olav Anton Thommessen, Ivar Froundberg et Henrik Hellstenius. Sa création inclut principalement des oeuvres de musique de chambre, qui lʼont amené à composer pour des musiciens tels que Martin Fröst, le Kairos Quartet, Bit20 (avec Pierre- André Valade au Borealis Festival de Bergen) et le Oslo Sinfonietta (avec Christian Eggen à lʼOslo International Chamber Music Festival).

En 2013 il termine un opéra intitulé Ad undas – Solaris Korrigert (pour orchestre, solistes et choeur à 9 voix) quʼil a eu la chance de faire créer à lʼOpéra National dʼOslo en octobre 2013. Fruit dʼune collaboration étroite avec le poète renommé Øyvind Rimbereid, lʼoeuvre a été mise en scène par l’artiste de performance Lisa C. Baudoin Lie.

Øyvind Mæland a participé à diverses masterclasses dont la Darmstadt Summer Academy (où ses oeuvres ont été jouées à deux reprises). Il a reçu les conseils de compositeurs tels que Georges Aperghis, Brian Ferneyhough, Marco Stroppa, James Dillon, Klaus Lang, Chaya Czernowin, Fabio Vacchi et Rolf Wallin.

The Norwegian composer Øyvind Mæland studied the piano with JiriHlinka at the Barratt Due Musikkinstitutt in Oslo before turning to composition at the Norwegian Academy of Music where he studied with Olav Anton Thommessen, Ivar Froundberg and Henrik Hellstenius, His production principally includes chamber music works, and he has worked with musicians and ensembles such as Martin Fröst, Kairos Quartet, Bit20 (with Pierre-André Valade, the Borealis Festival in Bergen) and the Oslo Sinfonietta (with Christian Eggen, Oslo Chamber Music festival).

In 2013 Øyvind Mæland concluded the work on an nearly two-hour long opera; Ad undas – Solaris korrigert (for full orchestra, soloists and a nine-voiced choir) was staged at the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet in October that year. The opera was written in close collaboration with the renowned poet Øyvind Rimbereid and was directed by the performance artist Lisa C. Baudoin Lie.

Øyvind Mæland has participated in the international summer courses at Darmstadt three times, and has had his music performed there. He has had lessons with composers like Georges Aperghis, Brian Ferneyhough, Marco Stroppa, James Dillon, Klaus Lang, Chaya Czernowin, Fabio Vacchi og Rolf Wallin.
